Currently, there are several strategies for reducing the price of solar electricity:
Make silicon cheaper. Solar 18 R&D team have extensive experience in cutting and polishing wafers. Our manufacturing facility uses all types of silicon in order to reduce price. We scale the production of silicon, robotizing the process, and are skilled in selecting silicon to be used in production in the most economic way. We constantly work on reducing silicon waste.
Several years ago, while working on space solar panels, we came to the conclusion that we can use solar concentrators not only with monocrystalline silicon, cadmium-telluride (CdTe) and copper-indium-diselenide (CIS) and not limited for space shuttles that use expensive rear metals elements, but by using scaled down concentrators’ capacity to create photovoltaic elements, we can redesign it for concentrators use. This way, we are able to manufacture solar energy with less of the expensive precious semiconductor material. By carefully selecting silicon, using robotic technology, utilizing high efficiency semiconductors, and minimizing the use of silicon, we have been able to develop concentrators that follow the sun and use concentrated sunlight to produce lower cost solar energy.
We also believe that by using substantially thinner layers, we conserve on expensive semicon¬ductor materials. Moreover the semi-transparent thin film modules can be used for glazing buildings. Despite their lower efficiency rates, it offers the combination of noise insulation and thermal protec-tion. We are currently integrated with SCADA (Intelligent Building applications) and with high tech technologies like Facial recognition, license plate recognition, and robotics. Currently, we are working on Nano level technology and solar thin film technology to generate layers - only a few Nano - or micrometers on almost any given material.
